CARMA study papers to be published in the Journal of the International AIDS Society and PLOS Pathogens Journal

22 Apr, 2021

The CARMA (Child and Adolescent Reservoir Measurements on early suppressive ART) study team is excited to share that two papers have been accepted for publication into the PLOS Pathogens Journal and the Journal of the International AIDS Society.

  • T cell immune discriminants of HIV reservoir size in a pediatric cohort of perinatally infected children
  • Early ART initiation during infancy preserves natural killer cells in young European adolescents living with HIV (CARMA Cohort)

CARMA is a multi-centre, cross-sectional study of children who acquired HIV around the time of birth or through breastfeeding (perinatally acquired HIV-1) on sustained suppressive antiretroviral therapy that started before they reached the age of 2. The study aims to enroll 40 children from 6 European investigational sites, in Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Through this study, investigators hope to identify the factors that influence the establishment of low viral levels in these children and adolescents.

Fondazione Penta Onlus is the sponsor of the trial.

*Both papers will be made available to the public in the coming weeks.
